Media & Campaigns Intern

ONE is a global campaign and advocacy organization co-founded by Bono and backed by nearly seven million people from around the world and every walk of life that are committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. We hold world leaders to account for the promises made to the poorest, and we press them to support better policies and more effective aid. We also work with leaders in Africa to support greater democracy, accountability and transparency so these resources can be effectively deployed. ONE has offices in Berlin, Brussels, Johannesburg, London, New York City, Paris and Washington DC.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Media and Campaigns Intern who will support our Brussels team with the development and delivery of our public-facing campaign work and with online, print, and social media. This internship will begin Mid-January 2017 and will run for six months. The ideal candidate will be a great team player who is sympathetic to ONE’s issues and is able to handle a varied and fast paced role. Familiarity and understanding of EU processes, and international development and interest or experience in Africa are strongly preferred. The Campaigns/Media Intern will be based in our Brussels Office and will report to the Media Manager.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
Support ONE’s Media Manager in its activities;
Maintain relations with relevant EU media outlets and Brussels-based correspondents from national media in EU Member States;
Help manage ONE’s social media accounts (mainly Twitter), and work with colleagues across ONE to develop assets and content for social media;
Draft blogposts and manage visual content such as photos and videos of events;
Monitor the media in Brussels and Belgium, identifying trends and opportunities for ONE;
Support the Campaigns Manager with logistical planning of events and the implementation of other operations projects as required;
Support the implementation of our Youth Ambassadors programme in Belgium. This will include keeping up to date and accurate records of the Youth Ambassadors programme assets as well as all supporting project management documents;
Support ONE’s campaigning and membership work with a particular focus on ONE’s campaigning efforts on transparency, gender and aid budgets;
Promote the work of the campaigns team and our membership in Brussels and across Europe, within the organisation and outside;
Respond to public email enquiries;
Provide general administrative support as required;
Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or the designee.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
Proactive, a ‘doer’ capable of driving projects in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and occasional heavy workloads;
Very well-organised, forward-thinking and able to deal confidently with all types of inquiries. Proven ability to multi-task;
Ability to work to tight deadlines and produce research briefings with sometimes very short notice;
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment;
Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is essential to the role. Proficiency in Dutch, French and/or one of the other 28 EU Member States’ languages is a strong asset;
Ability to consistently apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions;
Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times;
Flexible, resourceful and innovative;
Familiarity and understanding of the EU processes;
Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills and strong quantitative skills;
Proven ability to synthesise complex documents with an eye for key points and relevance to ONE’s issues;
A commitment to ONE’s aims;
Familiarity and understanding of international development and interest or experience in Africa strongly preferred;
Relevant academic qualifications.
