BIGSSS PhD International Fellowships in Germany, 2016

The Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) is offering fellowship for international students. Fellowships are available for PhD level of study.
The aim of the BIGSSS PhD international fellowship is to enable and encourage academically able students from any nationality.
Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) goal is to focus all of efforts and resources on supporting outstanding international body of PhD and Postdoc Fellows, their research, and their professional development.
Applicants must have an excellent MA degree and 7.5 Band in IELTS.
Course Level: Fellowships are available for PhD level of study.
Study Subject: Successful applicants for this PhD fellowships will pursue a topic in one of BIGSSS’ three Thematic Fields:
List of Subjects: Field A: Global Governance and Regional Integration, Field B: Welfare State, Inequality and Quality of Life and Field C: Changing Lives in Changing Socio-Cultural Contexts
Scholarship Award: Through a secure employment contract, in BIGSSS departs the gross salary amounts to 2250 € per month, costs for social insurance and health insurance will be deduced. The BIGSSS-departs program consists of a structured curriculum and several defined milestones (Proposal Defense, Progress Assessment Colloquia, Dissertation Completion Meeting). The continuation of the work contract is bound to the fulfillment of these milestones. Financing of additional research costs such as travel cost, conference participation, in?house events, and outreach events will be provided.

Eligibility: Criteria is:
–An excellent MA degree (or national equivalents like the German “Diplom” or “Magister”) in a discipline pertinent to at least one of BIGSSS‘ three Thematic fields (see above), i.e. in Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, or related social science disciplines e.g. Law, Economics or Mass Communication. The degree must be completed by the end of July of the year of application, which means they may apply before having finished their MA degree.
–English proficiency as described in the application materials.
-EU Mobility Rule: All accepted researchers must move to Bremen for the BIGSSS-departs program. Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months during the 3 years immediately prior to the date of their application to BIGSSS-departs. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account. All nationalities are welcome to apply.
-Early-Stage Researchers requirement: All applicants shall, at the start of the BIGSSS-departs program (Fall 2016), be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree.

Entrance Requirement: An excellent MA degree (or national equivalents like the German “Diplom” or “Magister”) in a discipline pertinent to at least one of BIGSSS‘ three Thematic fields.
Test Requirement: TOEFL: 100 internet-based test, 250 computer-based, 600 paper-based
English Language Requirements: IELTS: Band 7.5
