Master Study Grants for International Students at USI in Switzerland, 2016-2017

The Foundation for the Lugano Faculties of USI is offering 60 one?off study grants for international students. Grants are available for pursuing master degree programme.
The aim of the study grants is to enable and encourage academically able students from any nationality. USI also provides its graduates with career guidance, ensuring a smooth transition to the workplace.
University of Lugano is a public university which has four faculties, and follows the European standard of three-year undergraduate studies and two-year master’s. USI stands out in the Swiss academic landscape for its original teaching programs, both at Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
Applicants must have obtained the Bachelor’s degree (passed all the exams and defended the thesis) by July 31st, 2016 with a cumulative grade point average of at least 80/100. Conditions: the internships are unpaid but local transport is fully reimbursed and a small daily allowance for lunch is provided.

Description:
The intern will work closely with the person responsible for the Western Europe Programme at FIDH and assist her in running the programme. This includes the following tasks:
Assisting the programme officer with research and analysis in human rights related issues and in devising and implementing advocacy strategies to influence the political agenda (at both the national and regional level) in line with FIDH’s mission and vision
Drafting thematic notes, syntheses and memoranda for internal use, and assist in writing advocacy letters, press releases and position papers
Attending and occasionally representing FIDH at advocacy meetings, conferences and seminars
Monitoring developments in policies, legislation and practices at both the national and regional level to help identify crisis situation and advocacy opportunities. Monitoring the EU, CoE and UN agendas.
Assisting the programme officer in organising fact-finding and advocacy missions to target countries (depending on work plan)
Assisting the programme officer in maintaining and strengthening relations with FIDH’s member organisations in the region and in liaising with partner organisations and target institutions
Helping organise and run meetings, events and press conferences
Providing organisational and administrative assistance, including updating databases and information on FIDH website, distributing documents, etc.
Candidate profile:
Excellent understanding and interest in human rights issues, particularly economic, social and cultural rights, anti-discrimination and equality and migration and asylum issues. An expertise in economic, social and cultural rights would be particularly welcome.
Excellent knowledge (academic and/or practical) of EU, CoE and UN systems and standards.
Good knowledge and background in international law, international human rights law and/or EU law (proved by a 1st or 2nd degree in law, international relations, political sciences, etc.)
Excellent command of English (both oral and written) and at least an intermediate level of French (oral and written). Other languages (especially other European languages) would be an asset.
Good research, analytical and drafting skills
Good communication skills (oral and written)
Ability to work collaboratively in a small team
Commitment to human rights and desire to work in an international, challenging and fulfilling environment

Our mission is to improve the professionalism, independece, and impact in the news media in the 29 post-communist countries in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
This internship provides an introduction to business and marketing practices at an international publisher and training institution, as well as insights into social business and social entrepreneurship.
Internship responsibilities include:
Assisting on sales and marketing of training courses and Transitions Online magazine, as well as other products such as e-books and special reports;
Designing sales campaigns for magazine and training courses;
Searching for new business;
Executing sales and marketing campaigns (both via personal contact and creating/distributing promotional material), including through social media;

Qualifications:

The European Central Bank (ECB) is seeking applications from recent graduates or students who are close to completing their master’s studies for a traineeship in the English Translation and Editing Section (ETE) within Directorate General Communications (DG/C). ETE is responsible for providing translation, editing, proof-reading and terminology services for the ECB to support the ECB’s reporting obligations and its external communication activities in English. ETE also advises the staff and the decision-making bodies of the ECB on linguistic matters.
Successful applicants will be entrusted with the following main tasks:
Translating into English from other official EU languages a broad range of materials in the fields of monetary policy and banking supervision;
Editing and proof-reading of documents drafted in English;
Providing linguistic and drafting advice in English in support of the ECB’s communication policy.
Eligibility
Applicants must have the following knowledge and competencies:
Master’s degree (or equivalent qualification) in translation or modern languages, or be a student currently embarking upon his/her final year of master’s degree on such a course;
Perfect command of English together with proven drafting ability in English;
Ability to translate from at least one EU official language into English;
Experience of editing and/or proof-reading English texts, either as part of a degree course or in a professional context, would be an advantage;
Ideally, experience of translating using computer-assisted translation tools such as Studio;
Basic knowledge of economics, central banking issues and/or banking supervision would be an asset;
Working knowledge of MS Office, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Remuneration
The trainee grant is the exact amount of EUR 1,050 per month. The trainee grant is increased to EUR 1,900 per month for trainees who have completed at least two years of PhD study and who apply for a traineeship vacancy that requires such a level of qualification.

The Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung North America is a non-profit political foundation affiliated with the German Green Party. HBS acts as a catalyst for green visions and projects, a think tank for policy reform, and an international network. HBS seeks to advance democracy and human rights, protect the environment and climate, and promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Particular emphasis is aimed on gender democracy, meaning social emancipation and equal rights for women and LGBTI communities.

Communication Intern EGS - EuroGeoSurveys

EuroGeoSurveys, The Geological Surveys of Europe (EGS) seeks to appoint a full-time (38 hours/week), dynamic and motivated Communication Intern to provide support on graphical designing, CMS and social media, and organisation of events. The Communication Intern will work under the supervision of the Secretary General responding directly to the Communication Manager, and in close collaboration with EGS Secretariat staff members, either keeping them updated of the activities directly carried out, or interacting with them for those activities requiring team work. Moreover, the person will participate in the day-to-day functioning of the Secretariat, including carrying out administrative and secretarial duties. He/she will be part of a dynamic international team operating in a continuously evolving environment at the heart of the EU area. The Communication Intern will be based in Brussels, and he/she has to be able/available to travel in case it is required.

Tasks and responsibilities of the Communication Intern
Communicating our work through social media (twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn) and website (updating, editing, increasing EGS visibility, etc.);
Supporting the Communications activities: drafting, proofreading, editing (publications, newsletter articles, etc.);
Supporting events organisation (institutional meetings, workshops, etc.) and logistics, including support in the management of the EGS Meeting Room;
Monitoring and reporting on communication statistics;
Maintaining and updating the EGS database of European journalists;
Monitoring media coverage and conducting media analysis;
Supporting the editing and the design of publications;
Providing back-up for colleagues where needed;
Taking on other tasks when required.
Profile
A university degree or higher education in Communication Sciences, EU Affairs, Marketing or equivalent;
An excellent English speaker, writer and editor, able to express herself/himself in a clear and concise manner;
Demonstrated interest in environmental policy/geosciences.
Working experience in the communication field, expertise in multimedia and social media, knowledge of other languages and knowledge of geological topics and of the EU system functioning are considered an asset.
Position requirements
Practical experience in using Photoshop, InDesign, and/or similar graphical programmes;
IT skills (MS Office, Desktop Publishing software, graphic editor, etc.) and, ideally, experience with Content Management Systems such WordPress.
Moreover, the incumbent is expected to bring strong communications skills and ability to work both independently and in a team. Strong organisational skills, flexibility, attention to details, ability to work under tight deadlines, under pressure and in a multicultural environment are necessary.
