Intern - Communications


The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) is an international foundation at the heart of international Geneva. It is a leading executive education centre in global security policy. The GCSP is also a platform that facilitates dialogue and exchange in support of peace, security and international cooperation. We deliver Executive courses in key locations worldwide and foster strategic, innovative and critical thinking in our participants. We represent a genuinely global centre with multinational staff and fellows from a variety of backgrounds and fields of expertise. More than 800 participants join our course every year from over 100 nations, from the public, non-profit and private sectors. We can also count on an ever-growing alumni community of over 4,000 international professionals that is vibrant, global and known for its policy influence.

Terms of Reference

Position: Intern

Reporting to: Head of Department

Duration: 6 months

Workload: 60% (15 hours per week during the studies and full-time during the academic holidays)

Main Responsibilities
The incumbent will assist the External Relations and Communications Department members with the following tasks:
Assist with the production of GCSP’s publications (academic papers, reports, etc.) and promotion material (fact sheets, flyers, etc.)
Assist the preparation of GCSP’s email announcements and invitations (including course call for applications, newsletter, event invitations, etc.)
Assist with web and social media maintenance
Assist with stock-keeping and orders of give-aways
Perform other tasks as assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
Current university studies in communications, design, marketing or a related field
Excellent English written and spoken skills
Holder of a valid residency, student permit in Geneva, or Swiss national.
Strong layout and design skills (using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop in particular)
Knowledge of and experience with HTML and CRM/email marketing tools
Keen attention to detail, eagle eye for detail and accuracy
Ability to work effectively and flexibly in a small team as well as under pressure
Ability to multi-task, adapt, be creative and pick up new techniques
At ease in dealing with people from a broad range of cultural backgrounds and at multiple levels within and outside of the organisation.
Organised, reliable and resourceful; able to work independently with minimal supervision
Desirable
Knowledge of French
Interest in or exposure to international affairs and security
Previous experience working in an international environment
