Advocacy Assistant (Internship)

Protection International is currently recruiting a Advocacy Assistant (Internship)
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Duration: 6 months
BACKGROUND
Protection International (PI) is an International NGO that contributes to the improvement of the protection of human rights defenders throughout the world. PI provides tools to develop defender’s capacity to manage their own security as they struggle against impunity and work in favour of human rights and democracy in their respective countries or regions. PI seeks to contribute to a situation where human rights defenders are recognised as legitimate actors for social change and to an environment where they can exercise their right to defend universally accepted human rights.
Protection International has its head office in Brussels, but primarily works where protecting human rights defenders is needed. We have long term presence in Colombia, Guatemala, DR Congo, Kenya, Burundi, Thailand and Indonesia; and we also work with partners in countries like Egypt, Italy, Brazil, Honduras, Mexico, Mali, Nigeria and Pakistan.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Key objectives and responsibilities:
Support PI global advocacy initiatives with relevant stakeholders for the protection of human rights defenders
Provide assistance to advocacy initiatives by PI’s field presences
Support PI’s Advocacy & Outreach Unit in the implementation of outreach initiatives in order to raise PI profile at the EU and international level
Assist in drafting and editing briefs, press-releases, and general web-entries
Support the organization of PI events and campaigns
Mange and expand PI’s contact database
Contribute to PI’s website and social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook)
Communication and reporting structures:
Reporting to the Head of Advocacy & Outreach Unit
Collaboration with other members of theAdvocacy & Outreach Unit and other PI’s bodies in relation to specific tasks
Communication with external stakeholders and participation in external meetings/events under the supervision of the Advocacy & Communications Head
Participation in Head Office meetings as well as regular interaction with PI field offices
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Education:
 Master Degree in a relevant field (communications and advocacy,  political science, human rights, politics, etc.)
Personal Qualities:
Initiative
Flexibility
Commitment to human rights
Written and oral fluency in English
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Experience in communications & advocacy campaigns
Experience organising events and facilitating meetings
Knowledge of international mechanisms for the protection of human rights
Experience with a NGO and/or international organisations  (internship or volunteer work accepted)
Experience in the field
Strong knowledge of French and/or Spanish
TERMS & CONDITIONS
This is unpaid internship, reimbursement is provided for local transport only.
30 hours/week for 6 months with possibility to work remotely.
