Introduction:
IOM in Brussels is establishing a roster of potential interns interested to join the Organization
between September 2015 and December 2015. The start date of internship is subject to negotiation between the two parties.
Practicalities:
This Call for Curricula  is reserved for candidates who
are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies;
are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work on specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor;
These posts are subject to local recruitment. Only persons holding a valid residence and work permit for Belgium will be eligible for consideration.
Background and general functions:
The intern will either work for the IOM Regional Office for the European Economic Area, European Union and NATO or for the IOM Country Office for Belgium and Luxembourg and will be working in one of the below areas:
Migration Policy and Research IOM RO Brussels actively contributes to EU policy debates on migration, mobility and development through participation in consultations and debates held by the European Commission and Parliament, and by providing our inputs to the EU Council Presidencies and committees. RO Brussels has contributed to consultations on the EU’s multi-annual financial framework        (MFF), the Global Approach to Migration and Mobility (GAMM), and the EU’s agenda for migration and mobility for development, among others.
      Additionally, RO Brussels supports EU dialogue with third countries on migration issues.
Duties and responsibilities: The intern will either support the external team, focusing on developing IOM’s policy  and project-related cooperation within the European Union in third countries, undertake research and  analysis on the current state of affairs and future prospects, assist in the preparation and submission of project proposals and reports to EU institutions or provide secretarial and administrative support to the Head of Unit in the day-to-day management and overall functioning of the Unit.
Specific requirements: a) University degree in European Studies, International Relations, Political Science, or Law; b) Knowledge of European institutions and policy in the fields of migration, development and/or foreign affairs is a distinct advantage; c) Knowledge about EU financing rules and procedures an advantage.
Regional Implementation: This Unit coordinates and manages EU-funded IOM projects and programmes which have a multiregional dimension. RIU is currently carrying out the programme:Supporting the ACP-EU Dialogue and Cooperation on Migration and Development (ACP-EU Migration Action).
Duties and responsibilities: The intern will be supporting the implementation of activities under the Action supporting ACP-EU Cooperation on Migration and Development by contributing to the development of communication material, assist in research and by providing general administrative support.
Specific requirements: a) University degree in European Studies, International Relations, Political Science, or Law;  b) Direct experience of one or more of the six ACP regions an asset; c) Fluency in Portuguese, English and French required. Spanish is an asset.
Emergency & Post-Crisis: Forced migration and massive population movements, including protracted internal and cross-border displacement and refugee situations caused by natural and man-made disasters have drawn international attention and response. IOM and the EU have had an important role to play in responding to the humanitarian needs resulting from these population flows. IOM Regional Office Brussels is regularly contracted by the European Commission to implement post-crisis programmes.
Duties and responsibilities: The intern will assist in research and reviewing and submitting of project reports in the field of humanitarian aid and post crisis from IOM field missions to the European Commission. Assist and participate in the organization of meetings and conferences.
Specific requirements: a) University degree in European Studies, International Relations, Political Science, or Law; b) First professional experience in the field of EU liaison, preferably in the field of emergency & post-crisis or DG Echo would be a distinct advantage.
Migration Health: IOM Health promotes a public health approach to migrant and minority health. In Europe, IOM Regional Office Brussels works in partnership with EU institutions, Regional Networks, other IOs academic networks and Civil Society Organisations in support of policy development, providing technical advice as well as the implementation of projects.
Duties and reponsibilities: The intern will assist with, and be responsible for a variety of tasks encompassing the field of migration health. The intern will provide direct support for the implementation of Migration Health activities of IOM in Europe and Central Asia including issues related to mobility of health professionals. The person will further support the activities related to the project Equi-Health “Fostering health provision for the Roma migrants and other vulnerable groups“, assist in the production and dissemination of IOM publications and in maintaining and promoting contacts with external stakeholders and other field offices engaged in migration health. 
Specific requirements: a) University degree in Public/ Global Health, Social Sciences, Political Science, or similar ; b) proven interest in migration/ migration health topics; c) familiarity with qualitative research is required; d) knowledge of database tools and ability to produce graphs; e) knowledge of European institutions, CoE and policy in the field of public health and/or migration, ethnic minority Roma is an asset.
Finance & Administration: The Regional Resource Management Unit (RRMU) is responsible for monitoring and supporting the financial, human resources and other administrative functions of the Country Offices (COs) within the region of the European Economic Area as well as for contributing to the efficient financial management of the Regional Office.
Duties and responsibilities: The intern will assist, in close collaboration with the RRMU colleagues,  in monitoring and supporting the budgetary, financial and administrative functions of the Regional Office.
Specific requirements; a) Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline. University degree in related fields would be a distinct advantage; b) Familiarity with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) is an asset; c) Experience with EU funding instruments relevant for EU member states and related financial rules and administrative procedures is an asset.
Information & Communication: The IOM Country Office Information and Communication Unit contributes to the visibility and promotion of IOM’s activities in Belgium and Luxembourg. This Unit oversees and coordinates all information and communication activities implemented by the Country Office and maintains and develops contacts and liaison with relevant partners, in view of the successful implementation of projects
Duties and responsibilities:  a) Assist in translating key documents from English to French and/ or         from English to Dutch; b) Assist in maintaining the CO Website c) Assist in compiling the CO quarterly newsletter; d)Assist in developing new information materials issued by the IOM Brussels CO; e) Assist in organising meetings, conferences and events.

Projects: The IOM Country Office Projects Team is developing and implementing projects on subject areas such as migration and development, counter-trafficking, vulnerable migrant groups (including victims of trafficking (VoTs) and unaccompanied migrant children (UMC), technical cooperation on migration, labour migration and integration.
Duties and responsibilities: The Intern will provide content and administrative support to the Project Development Coordinator, the Focal point for UMC and VoTs and the Chief of Mission. The intern will assist with the development of new projects and liaison with the Belgian government and other stakeholders and will support in the research and analysis of the Belgian government’s institutional framework(s) and policies and prepare all relevant background information, research and filing necessary for meetings with stakeholders.

The internship will be located in the Cities Alliance Secretariat office in Brussels, Belgium. The selected candidate will work within the Director Unit across selected activities of the Unit, under the supervision of the Communications Officer.

Policy Intern

The intern would support the Policy Unit and Secretariat based on ENAR’s current work programme.

Starting date: End of Septemeber onwards.

Key activities include:
Monitoring relevant policy developments within the European institutions
Undertaking specific research for the policy unit concerning relevant topics at EU and national levels including research for documents of EU institutions concerning racism and equal treatment and other related issues
Updating and monitoring ENAR’s advocacy calendar
Drafting factsheets and/or policy position papers

The Delegation is looking for candidates who can join for a period of six months, starting early September 2015.
The key tasks of the trainee will include: 
Assisting with the preparation of regular political analyses and reports on Myanmar, including coverage of key domestic issues such as the human rights situation in the country, peace process and upcoming elections, as well as regional issues related to ASEAN.
Assisting with the preparation of ad hoc reports, briefing notes or background analyses on specific occasions, such as high-ranking official visits, Head of Delegation missions, political negotiations or conferences, etc.
Assisting with delegation press and communication activities, including compiling a daily press review, drafting press releases and upkeep of the delegation's online media presence.
Assisting with the day-to-day administration activities of the section.
Person specification:
Applicants should be recent graduates with a strong background in a relevant field such as European Studies, International Relations, Politics and Government, etc.
Previous experience with Myanmar/Asia is desirable but not required. Previous experience in communications is also highly desirable.
Successful candidates will have outstanding analytical, communication and drafting skills and excellent written and spoken English.

Basic knowledge of EU decision-making politics and processes is expected. Some previous work experience, especially engaging with social media or/and using media to influence public/EU policies is a plus.

Excellent verbal and written command of English is required and good knowledge in other European languages, especially French, is desirable.
