The traineeship lasts six months and is unpaid.

What does the internship involve?

Overseas Research Scholarships at University College London in UK, 2015

University College London is inviting applications for overseas research scholarships. Approximately 40 UCL-ORS awards are available annually. Awards are tenable for years 1, 2, and 3 of a full-time MPhil/PhD/EngD degree programme (or years 1 to 5 of a part-time programme), subject to annual review and renewal. UCL Overseas Research Scholarships
UCL Overseas Research Scholarships
The UCL Overseas Research Scholarships (UCL-ORS), aim to attract high-quality international students to UCL to undertake research. Approximately 40 UCL-ORS awards are available annually. Applicants are advised to secure additional funding to cover living costs, which are estimated to be in the region of £13,000 per year. Where UCL-ORS awards may be held in conjunction with UCL Graduate Research Scholarships (GRS) and other non-fee awards (unless the fee award covers the Home/EU rate only).
Number of award(s): Approximately 40 UCL-ORS awards are available annually.
Duration of award(s): Awards are tenable for years 1, 2, and 3 of a full-time MPhil/PhD/EngD degree programme (or years 1 to 5 of a part-time programme), subject to annual review and renewal.Where students are undertaking an integrated four-year doctoral programme the award will be extended to their final year of study.
What does it cover? Awards consist of fee funding to cover the difference between Overseas and UK/EU tuition fees. UCL-ORS recipients who do not have any other fee funding will receive additional UCL funding to cover remaining tuition fees for the duration of the UCL-ORS award. The award does not cover the Additional Fee Element (AFE) of your programme (if applicable), unless you are also awarded a UCL GRS award. Awards are tenable for years 1, 2, and 3 of a full-time MPhil/PhD/EngD degree programme (or years 1 to 5 of a part-time programme), subject to annual review and renewal. Where students are undertaking an integrated four-year doctoral programme the award will be extended to their final year of study. If granted, funding begins at the start of the next academic session. Applicants are advised to secure additional funding to cover living costs, which are estimated to be in the region of £13,000 per year. Where UCL-ORS awards may be held in conjunction with UCL Graduate Research Scholarships (GRS) and other non-fee awards (unless the fee award covers the Home/EU rate only).
Selection criteria: Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and research potential. Financial circumstances are not taken into account.
Notification: Potential candidates must ensure that they submit a full scholarship application by the deadline irrespective of whether an offer of admission has reached them or not. The UCL Student Funding Office will check UCL systems at a later date to confirm whether the scholarship applicant holds an offer of admission and on what date that offer was made. Scholarship applicants who do not receive an offer by Friday, 27 February 2015 will be excluded from the competition at that point. It is for this reason that we recommend that you apply for admission as early as possible, and submit your scholarship application by the deadline.
How to Apply: There is one common application procedure and form for a number of research student scholarship schemes. All applicants will be considered for a UCL GRS, and overseas fee payers will also be considered for the UCL ORS award and, if applicable, the UCL-CSC (China Scholarships Council) Scholarships. To apply for the above scholarship / award / grant you should submit the following documents and should possess the following:
  • As a first step, you will need to submit an application for admission to a Phd in your chosen subject via our online admissions portal.
  • In the ‘Scholarships applied for’ box which appears within the Funding Section of your on-line application, you must quote ‘International Research Studentship Competition’ in order for your application to be considered in this competition.
  • Upload a summary of your proposed research and any relevant skills or experience. Your research proposal should indicate which of the research themes listed above it relates to, justifying the fit of the research to this theme. If you only wish to be considered for the full studentship, selection of a theme is not obligatory but you will increase your chances of being awarded funding if your research can be considered for both a full ‘prize’ studentship and a fees-only studentship. The research proposal should be a maximum length of 500 words excluding references. The research proposal is an important element of the funding decision; you may wish to consult the Graduate School’s guidance on writing a research proposal and/or your proposed supervisor.
Note for candidates who applied for admission prior to this guidance If you have already applied for 2015 admission via the online admissions portal but were – at that time – unaware of the possibility of applying for these studentships, you should email Postgraduate Admissions (pgadmissions@reading.ac.uk) by the deadline listed above, indicating that you would like to be considered for the ‘International Research Studentship Competition’.
Once all the information has been received by University of Reading and the assessment of the submitted documents is complete, you will be informed about your selection in the same.
