Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships for Canadian and International Students, 2014/2015

The Government of Canada offers Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships for Canadian and international students studying at Canadian universities. Up to 167 scholarships are awarded annually for a period of three years. Students must be nominated by only one Canadian university, which must have received a Vanier CGS allocation. Candidates cannot apply directly to the Vanier CGS program. Each Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship is valued at $50,000 per year. Application deadline for the 2014-2015 competition is November 5, 2014

-be pursuing your first doctoral degree (or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD). Note that only the PhD portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding;

-not have completed more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2015.

egta is recruiting an intern to assist its team. This is a 4 months UNPAID internship (from October to December/January – alternatively September to December) for a student who benefits from a work placement agreement with their university or school. You need to be covered both legally and, for insurance reasons, by your university/school’s work placement program.
About us: egta is the trade association of television and radio sales houses that commercialise the advertising space of both private and public TV/radio channels all over Europe. Our main areas of expertise are benchmarking, lobbying and networking. egta’s has 128 company members in about all European countries and beyond.

As an intern, you will assist egta’s various departments (Radio, TV, Research, Communication, Logistics) in:
  • Updating various databases about egta members, their activities and their communication strategies with egta. This implies working in Excel, but also in egta’s own databases, for which egta will of course provide a short training. It also requires writing emails and giving phone calls to gather certain type of information.
  • Writing articles and summaries for various communication tools (topics always concern the sale of advertising space on television and radio). If your skills allow, this will also involve translating certain articles, piece of news or research coming from a national member into English for a broader egta communication.
  • Assisting the team in the various tasks linked to the organisation of events.
You should have the following experience and qualities:
  • Preferably at the end stage of your studies in a relevant field (Communication, Administration, Office Management, Marketing, Audiovisual).
  • A high level of spoken and written English, as it is egta’s unique working language.
  • Good knowledge of another European language is a strong asset.

Administrative Intern OSEPI - Open Society European Policy Institute

The administrative intern will provide support to OSEPI’s administration and finance manager and to the policy team working on internal policies of the EU. The successful candidate will work at OSEPI’s office in Brussels under the supervision of the administration manager. This includes a broad range of responsibilities from office management to organizing meetings and assisting the team in organizing specific policy activities and initiatives.

The administrative intern will provide support in:

Administration (75 percent)

  • Organizing meetings: logistics, administration, and follow-up budgets;
  • Arranging domestic and international travel;
  • Help in preparing expense reports;
  • Updating the database of contacts;

2015/2016 Quebec MELS Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Nationals, Canada

Applications are invited for Quebec Merit Scholarship Program available for foreign nationals. Doctoral Research Scholarship: valued at $25,000 per year for up to three years (tenable within the first nine terms of the doctoral program), and MELS will offer all recipients an exemption from paying the international tuition fees and the medical insurance coverage offered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec. All doctoral sessions, funded or unfunded, completed before the scholarship takes effect are used in calculating the eligibility period.
-Postdoctoral Fellowship: valued at $35,000 per year for one year non renewable. Traineeship: editorial assistant at the international review of the Red Cross

Produced by the ICRC and published by Cambridge University Press, the International Review of the Red Cross is a specialized journal dedicated to international humanitarian law, humanitarian action and policy. It is published quarterly and its principal audience includes governments, international governmental and non-governmental organisations, universities, the media and all those interested in humanitarian issues at large.
The Review forms a small unit of 3 people within the FORUM Unit in the Integration & Promotion of the Law Division of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC): the Editor-in-Chief, the Editor, and the Editorial Assistant (one-year trainee). In addition, 2-3 short-term trainees join the team throughout the year for periods of 2-3 months.

Description

The Editorial Assistant works closely with the Editor-in-Chief and the Editor in the identification of future themes, assessment of articles, and overall content management. The staff of the Review is in regular interaction with ICRC's Legal Division, as well as other divisions and departments, in particular ICRC’s Protection Division, Operations Department, and Policy Unit.
The trainee will assist the Editor and the Editor-in-Chief of the Review in the conceptualization of the themes, contacts with authors, background research and substantive evaluation of articles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assistance to the Editor-in-Chief and the Editor of the International Review of the Red Cross
  • Substantial academic research on upcoming themes
  • Identification of potential authors and solicitation of submissions for the Review
  • Legal editing of article submissions (checking the legal reasoning, arguments, structure and sources)
  • Preparation and co-conduct of interviews of key experts in the field of humanitarian law, policy and action for the Review
  • Correspondence with authors and partners, and management of the Review files
  • Occasional involvement in the organisation of launch events of the journal, or online webinars featuring themes of the Review 
  • Maintenance of the webpage of the Review in English and French;

  • Applicants should normally have a good Honours degree in a cognate subject, i.e. one related to the Built Environment or Engineering.
