2014 Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme at University of Manchester in UK

University of Manchester is offering postgraduate scholarships to UK/EU students for full-time masters program beginning in September 2014. Up to 50 scholarships of between £10,000 and £15,000 are paid as a cash award. If the applicant is also eligible for a School or Faculty award, then the higher value award will be offered. If all scholarships are not awarded from the first tranche of applications, late applications will be considered. Application should be submitted till 2nd June 2014.
About Scholarship: The University of Manchester is offering a number of postgraduate scholarships for full-time master’s students beginning their studies in September 2014. The scheme is part of a Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) initiative aimed at widening access to postgraduate study and the professions by removing barriers to postgraduate education for students from underrepresented groups.

Eligibility: Scholarships are available to students applying to any academic School at the University of Manchester who satisfy the following criteria:
-You have been offered a place to study on a full-time taught postgraduate master’s degree commencing in September 2014.
-You hold, or expect to hold, a first or upper second class UK honours degree (or equivalent) by July 2014.
-You are a UK/EU student who is eligible to pay fees at the home rate.
-You meet one or more of the following criteria
-You have been in local authority care for at least 13 weeks and will be under the age of 25 on the course start date.
-You received a maintenance grant from the UK government during your undergraduate study. Consideration will be given to the number of years that a maintenance grant was received, and weighting will be given to students in receipt of the maximum maintenance grant.
-Your post code on entry to undergraduate study met the geo-demographic indicator as defined by the HEFCE POLAR3 Low Participation Neighbourhood (LPN) data and ACORN information (a system that assigns specific geo-demographic profiles to individual UK postcodes).
-You received Disabled Students’ Allowances during your undergraduate study.
-You are from a group that is under-represented in a particular discipline or professional pathway – specifically women with an offer to study in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering or the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Scholarship Open for: UK/EU students can apply for these postgraduate scholarships.
Number of awards: Up to 50 postgraduate scholarships are offered.
Duration: Scholarships will be paid as cash bursaries in three installments (25%, 50%, 25%) during the academic year 2014/15, with the first payment immediately after registration.
Value: Scholarships of between £10,000 and £15,000 are paid as a cash award.
Selection Criteria: Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an holistic assessment of the above mentioned eligibility criteria criteria, together with an assessment of under-represented groups in particular disciplines or professional pathways.
