ENPA is looking for a native English-speaking intern to provide communications support at the association’s offices in Brussels from April 2014 for up to 6 months to help our communications output and with the organisation of forthcoming events.

Tasks:

Job Description

The ECF has recently launched the Low Carbon Economy Initiative, which is supported by the ECF’s Chief Economist, based in Berlin. Its main objective is to develop a better understanding of the economic dimension of climate change and climate policies. In this sense, the goal is to build a bridge between conventional economics and climate economics, e.g. to analyze the impact of climate policies on competitiveness or to develop economic and statistical tools to better understand the interactions between climate and the economy.

The ECF is therefore offering an internship for six months – possibly extendible to 12 – starting as soon as possible. The selected candidate will be based in Berlin and will work closely and actively with the Chief Economist on a range of tasks:

Content tasks:

  • Support the low carbon economy agenda;
  • Research and writing up of regular notes and reports – as needed;
  • Data research and statistical treatment;
  • Conceptual assistance for workshops etc.;
  • Attending events;
  • Bring economists and climate experts together.

Administrative tasks:

  • Helping with travel bookings;
  • Helping with event and meeting organisation;
  • Helping with project administration;
  • Help in preparation of presentations;

The ideal candidate should embody the following professional qualifications and attributes:
  • Relevant work experience and academic background in applied economics, macroeconomic empirical research and basic statistics;

  • Proven ability to work well under pressure, take initiative and be a creative problem-solver;
  • Excellent attention to detail;

2014 POGO Fellowships for On-Board Training on AMT Cruise in UK

Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) is offering a special visiting fellowship for on-board training on an Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) Cruise. Fellowships are available scientists, technicians, graduate students (PhD/MSc), postdoctoral fellows involved in oceanographic work at centres in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. Fellowship will be awarded for a period of two months (12th August to 28th November 2014). The selected candidate will have the opportunity to visit Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) in the UK, for one month prior to the start of the cruise to participate in cruise preparation and planning; to go on the cruise.
About Scholarship: The Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) announces a special Fellowship for on-board training on an Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) Cruise. One berth has been reserved on the next AMT cruise (AMT-24) for the selected candidate. Selection Criteria: Representatives from POGO and AMT will review the applications. In their decision-making, the Selection Committee will consider the following points:
- Quality of the application;
- Curriculum of the applicant;
- Evidence that the training will lead to capacity-building with potential lasting impact on regional observations.

Internship : International Justice Program

The International Justice (“IJ”) Program of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) advises and operationalizes HRW’s activities on a range of issues relating to accountability in international criminal fora, devises strategies to obtain justice, and produces written materials to implement those strategies.
The IJ Program intern will primarily focus on monitoring international criminal law developments in targeted country situations and carrying out research on issues of international justice. Ideally, the intern would start in mid-June and commit a minimum of four months, although six months is preferable.
This internship is unpaid. Some lunch and local travel costs may be reimbursed as pre-approved by HRW and in accordance with HRW policy. Students are often able to arrange academic credit, as HRW internships often offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization, close supervision by the HRW staff, interaction with other international organizations and foreign and domestic government officials, and opportunities to attend lectures, trainings and special events relating to human rights. Students should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.

Qualifications:

This internship is open : to law students, law graduates, and graduate and undergraduate students with expertise in international criminal law. Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable with a strong proven interest in international human rights and/or international criminal law. Knowledge of universal jurisdiction is desirable. Strong writing skills, knowledge of French, and excellent English are essential. Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, internet applications) are required.

2014 Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowships for German and International Researchers in Germany

Brussels Internship Search for Common Ground

Search for Common Ground – Brussels Headquarters is seeking an intern to provide support to the team’s overall fundraising and development activities, with a special focus on SFCG’ outreach strategy.
The intern is supposed to start as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct desktop research related to fundraising, with a special focus on European bilateral donors;
  • Identify and research opportunities for new program development and partnerships;
  • Under the supervision of the Director, contribute to the implementation of the Outreach Strategy, including social media tools, newsletters, updating SFCG’s website,
  • Represent Search for Common Ground at relevant events and public meetings and take notes when requested;
  • Maintain and update computerized database of donors and prospects;
  • Provide administrative support to the office.
  • As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position-holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BA or MA in International Relations or Communications (or current student in the same disciplines);
  • Written and spoken fluency in English and French;
  • Advanced computer skills.

Paid traineeships at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)

The EESC is an advisory body that gives Europe's civil society organisations the chance to express their views at European level, including employers, trade unions, farmers' associations, consumers.
 

Long-term traineeships offered by the EESC last for five months and are arranged twice a year: from 16 February to 15 July (spring in-service training period) and from 16 September to 15 February (autumn in-service training period).

In order to apply, you should: 
  • be a university graduate who has completed at least three years of study;
  • have thorough knowledge of one EU language and a satisfactory knowledge of another EU language;  candidates from non-member countries are required to have only a thorough knowledge of another EU language.

To support its activities in the area of event planning and in the organisation of policy and industry meetings as well as to support our Events team in customer relations and sales, shecco is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Events & Marketing Assistant.

Mission

The Events Assistant will support the Events team, ensuring the delivery of high quality events and strengthening our customer relations. This will include all aspects of organising an event such as planning, practical and logistical preparation, website management, online marketing as well as onsite execution and post-event tasks. She/he will be involved in the management of all shecco events ranging from high profile conferences to smaller meetings in Europe, USA, South America and Asia.
