About Surfrider Foundation Europe:
Surfrider Foundation Europe is a non-profit organization, dedicated to defending, saving, improving and managing in a sustainable manner the oceans, coastlines, waves and the people who enjoy them. Since its creation, efforts have been concentrated on coastal issues, but today our scope of interest and involvement is spreading to related areas of lakes and rivers. Surfrider Foundation Europe is accredited with the EU, the United Nations and is a member of Surfrider Foundation International, of the federation France Nature Environment and of the European platform Seas at risk.
Missions:
Within the framework of the organization of its Ocean Initiatives 2014, broad environmental awareness-raising and citizen mobilization operations organized in Europe by volunteers through waste collection and clean-up activities, Surfrider Foundation Europe is looking for an intern to support the organization of its Ocean Initiatives program in the Ile de France region and Belgium. Under the responsibility of the local office manager and project manager, the intern will carry out the following missions:
• Citizen mobilization in the area (follow-up phone calls with former and prospective participants)
• Providing follow-up and logistical support for recorded operations
• Organization of educational projects with schools and the general public in the area
• Prospection activities searching for new partners and networks (associative, sports, media)
You will also participate and support the daily functioning of the association.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the marine and coastal environment
• Knowledge of the environmental education for sustainable development network and of environmental NGOs
• Project management and project drafting skills
• Fluent in French, English and Dutch
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to summarize, versatility and capacity to lead several activities in parallel.
Desired Skills:
• Project management ability and proactivity
• Communication skills
• Initiative thinker
• Accuracy and organizational skills are essential
• University degree
Working conditions:
• Full-time compensated internship (approximately 440 € / month) for 6 months, based in the Surfrider Office in Paris or more rarely working from home and through telephone and videoconference
• Period: from January until the end of June, 2014
