Eighty fellowships are awarded each year in the field of humanities and social sciences. The funding is available for the duration of nine to twelve months. Fellowships dedicated to scientific research alongside professional scientists. The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program award covers $5000 (excluding taxes), meals, traveling, and accommodation for the duration of 10 weeks.  International students who are attending a U.S. college or university are eligible to apply for undergraduate research fellowship.

Fellowship program for graduate students studying or research in any field except medical sciences or introductory language study course. Canadian students are eligible to apply and studying in the OAS member state. The scholarship covers tuition and course fees, international travel, and health insurance. The application form and all required documentation must be received by the one at least seven business days before the deadline in the specific course announcement.

Supports doctoral dissertations that explore the sources and nature of international conflict, and strategies to prevent or end conflict and to sustain peace. International Students are eligible, but must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States. Each year approximately 10 fellowships are offered for the duration of 10 months. The new application for the 2014-2015 competition will be open by late spring, 2013.

1-3 years of study at Oxford University for citizens of Australia, Bangladesh, Bermuda, Canada, Commonwealth Caribbean and Jamaica, Germany, Hong Kong, India Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The eligibility criteria for Rhodes scholarship are citizenship and residency, age and education. Applications for Rhodes Scholarships open during the spring and summer of the preceding year.

Approximately 20 ($2,000-$3,000) awards are offered to students in the U.S. in need of financial aid to further their education at the undergraduate or graduate level. All Smithsonian fellowships (graduate, pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, senior) opportunities are open to non-US citizens. Selection criteria are academic standing, scholarly qualifications, and experiences, the quality of the research project or study proposed and its suitability to Smithsonian collections, facilities, and programs. Each fellowship deadline may vary.

Candidates for the doctoral degree at a graduate school within the United States are eligible.25 fellowships are awarded. Applications are evaluated on the basis of applicants past research record, career in education research, and the quality of the project. The application deadline for postdoctoral research for the 2013 program will be November 2, 2012. The application deadline for dissertation research for the 2013 program will be October 5, 2012.

Students applying for the one year Villers Fellowship ($35,000 annual salary) must show commitment to social and health care justice advocacy following their year of hands-on experience as a fellow. The Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice is awarded in the advancement of social justice through participation in health care advocacy work that helps in facing many communities of color. The fellowship is available in September of 2013 for information about the 2014-2015.
