2013 PhD Studentship, University of Leicester, UK

University of Leicester
The Centre for Medical Humanities is offering fee-waiver studentship for October 2013 entry to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme. The studentship is available for UK/EU applicants who wish to pursue PhD in any area of medical history or the wider medical humanities.
About Scholarship: The studentship is open to applicants wishing to pursue doctoral research in any area of medical history or the wider medical humanities. However, preference may be given to applicants expressing interest in one of the six core interdisciplinary themes which will structure the activities of the Centre over the next five years: Miracle Cures, 1450-2018, Eating Yourself Well, Blood, Degeneration and Decay, Boundaries of Life and Death, Repair and Re-Use (of the Body and Body Parts).
They welcome applications from applicants wishing to follow the standard PhD submission route (i.e., a written thesis) as well as applicants whose research proposal would lend itself to a practice-based route (i.e., submission comprising both a written thesis and a created artefact).
The practice-based route facilitates the communication of research in new forms such as audio-visual productions. Both the written and practical components of the thesis should form a coherent whole that demonstrates original research and contains material that is deemed worthy of publication/public exhibition. Applicants interested in following this route are encouraged to contact the Centre to discuss the proposed format of their thesis.
