1. Introduction
The European Institute for Gender Equality[1] (EIGE) announces a traineeship opportunity lasting up to five months for a graduate who is a national of an EU member state.
The traineeship shall be based at the Institute's offices in Vilnius, Lithuania. The registration of applications will begin on 23 January 2013 and will close on 22 February 2013 at 23:00 Eastern European Time (EET).
EIGE is a regulatory agency of the European Union (EU) entrusted with specific objectives related to the contribution and strengthening of gender equality promotion.
To achieve its goals, the Institute shall collect and analyse objective, comparable and reliable information at EU level and develop appropriate methodological tools for the integration of gender equality into EU policies. EIGE shall equally foster the exchange of good practices and dialogue between stakeholders and raise EU citizen awareness of this policy area by providing technical assistance to the Community institutions, in particular the Commission, as well as the authorities of the Member States. In the course of its work to promote and strengthen gender equality EIGE will also strive to eliminate gender discrimination.
The traineeship shall aim principally to:

  • provide work-training experience in key areas of the Institute's work;
  • extend and apply knowledge acquired in the course of studies or working life; 
  • provide practical working knowledge of the Institute; 
  • enable the trainee to acquire work experience through the contacts s/he makes.

2. Traineeship Description
Objectives
The trainee shall provide assistance and support to ensure the smooth functioning of the Institute's work on research, statistics and indices.  
The trainee shall be provided with relevant work experience in an EU agency and knowledge of gender equality related to the Institute's focal areas of concern.
Description of the work
Reporting to a supervisor, the trainee will be expected to carry out the following duties:
  • assist in carrying out research related tasks in priority areas;
  • participate in the review, analysis and synthesis of research results and conclusions drawn from studies; 
  • assist in the collection, processing and analysis of gender statistics and identification of data gaps; 
  • assist as required with specific project work, including reviews and report-writing as designated by the supervisor; 
  • participate in identifying, and mapping of, relevant bodies in the EU Member States responsible for gender equality questions, gender statistics and data; 
  • attend selected meetings, in particular concerning the Beijing Indicators and the Gender Equality Index and support the organisation of meetings with external experts; 
  • assist colleagues from the Operations Unit with the dissemination of Institute’s research findings  and   gender statistics.
Traineeship pre-requisites
The traineeship is open to applicants who have not previously undertaken a traineeship in another European institution or body and who meet the following requirements:
  • a recognised university degree [2] in social sciences or humanities, evidencing completion of a full cycle of study. Gender studies or studies in social statistics will be considered advantageous.
  • some initial experience in social statistics obtained either through specialisation as part of the applicant’s studies for a university degree, a dissertation or other research project conducted as part of their studies or in some other manner or through professional experience or a previous traineeship. 
Trainees shall be selected from among nationals of the Member States of the European Union and EFTA countries.
Applicants must also have fluent English, both spoken and written, an excellent knowledge of at least one other EU language as well as computer skills applicable to a Windows environment.

3. Application Procedure
There are two stages to the application process:
Stage 1 - Online registration
At the first stage candidates must submit their application electronically using the EIGE application form.
EIGE application form
Applications must reach eige.hr@eige.europa.eu by not later than 23:00, Eastern European Time (EET) on 22 February 2013 and the subject title noted by applicants should include the reference number of the application.
Candidates are requested to send their completed application in English, the language in which the Institute mainly works. All parts of the application form must be completed in full. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Stage 2 - Submission of a full application (only for candidates invited to an interview and selected)
At the second stage, should the candidate be invited for interview and be selected, in order for the application to be considered complete candidates must provide photocopies of all the supporting documents (proof of nationality, diplomas, academic qualifications, employment certificates, professional references etc.) needed to prove that they satisfy all admission conditions.
All documentary evidence of any professional experience must indicate start and end dates for previous positions and the start date and continuity for the current position held. On the day of the interview the candidate must sign his/her application form and by signing the form the candidate certifies on his/her honour that the information provided is complete and accurate.
Candidates will be eliminated if:
  • their application is received after 23:00, EET on 22nd February 2013.
  • they do not use and duly complete the official application form provided by EIGE. 
  • they do not meet the general conditions described in the pre-requisites section.
Eligible candidates shall be selected on the basis of their application. The Institute regrets that, due to the large volume of applications it receives only candidates of particular interest will be contacted.
Candidates must be prepared to submit proof of their qualifications upon request since if successful, they will be required to produce originals of their diplomas, academic qualifications and employment certificates upon request.
A Selection Committee shall oversee the analysis of the applications to assess and select those best matching the profile and qualifications required for this traineeship. On this basis the Selection Committee can invite the best admissible candidates for an interview which may include other appropriate testing. 
The work of the Selection Committee is confidential. Candidates shall not make direct or indirect contact with the Selection Committee or have anybody do so on their behalf. The Appointing Authority reserves the right to disqualify any candidate who disregards this instruction.

4. Engagement and Conditions of Traineeship
Engagement for a traineeship will be decided by the Institute’s Director on the basis of a reserve list of candidates proposed by the Selection Committee. Candidates should note that an inclusion to the reserve list does not guarantee selection. The established reserve list may be used for other similar traineeships depending on the Institute's needs and will be valid until the 31 December following the year of engagement.
The traineeship is supported by a monthly grant equivalent to €750. While a travel allowance will be provided, trainees however will have to make their own health insurance arrangements.
Applicants are advised to read Decision No. 2011/765 since it contains relevant information with regards to traineeships at the Institute. 

5. Data Protection
The purpose of processing of the data submitted by candidates is to manage each application in view of a possible pre-selection and recruitment as a trainee at the Institute. Unsuccessful application files shall be kept for two years following the closure of the selection procedure, after which time they are destroyed. The personal information requested from applicants will be processed in line with Regulation (EC) N°45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18th December 2000 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Community institutions and bodies and on the free movement of such data. 

6. Lithuania and living in Vilnius
A member of the Schengen Area, Lithuania borders Latvia, Belarus, Poland and the Kaliningrad region of Russia. Its western coastline - noted for its fine beaches, dunes and majestic pines - straddles the Baltic Sea. Lithuanian summers are sunny and warm with an average temperature of +17 C. In addition to hosting a number of international schools, it has a developed infrastructure and ambitious future plans.

BUTEX Undergraduate Scholarship for UK and International students, UK

Each year BUTEX awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year.

Description
The successful applicants of the BUTEX undergraduate scholarship will be awarded funds worth £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university for each recipient.

Eligibility
UK Students

  • undergraduate students currently registered at a UK university which is BUTEX-affiliated.
  • been offered a study abroad or exchange place which is not eligible for an ERASMUS grant.

1st European Youth Conference: Strengthening the Recognition of Non-Formal Education in European Youth Work

Youth organization CULTURE GOES EUROPE (CGE) – Soziokulturelle Initiative Erfurt e.V. is looking for participants all over Europe for its “1st European Youth Conference: Strengthening the Recognition of Non-Formal Education in European Youth Work” to be held in Cracow, Poland, on 19th – 25th March 2013. 

One of the main challenges of European youth work is the recognition of the value of youth work as non-formal learning among public and private institutions as well as among the general population on one hand and the recognition of learning outcomes of youth participating in youth work activities on the other hand. Facing the challenges of the new EU program “Erasmus for all” the requested project proposal therefore focuses on the two interlinked processes of formal/political as well as social recognition of youth work and non-formal learning. 

The objectives of the project are:
  • To facilitate the communication between the involved stakeholders
  • To foster the transfer of knowledge within the EU27
  • To increase the transparency and quality of YW and NFL activities
The participants of the Youth Conference (YC) will join an intense week working on sharing their experiences:
  • How to facilitate the communication between the involved stakeholders
  • How to foster the transfer of knowledge within EU27
  • How to increase the transparency and quality of YW and NFL activities
The activities are based on principles & practice of non-formal learning including various activities as open space, lectures/speeches/inputs, floors include. exercises, simulations, which are creating situations for deeper personal reflection, followed by concentrated debriefing, work in small mixed groups, inputs, presentations & discussion of results, e.g. through fishbowl-method, field trips, meetings & roundtables, workshops, free time activities & intercultural activities. The methods are based on a learning process & stimulating creativity, active participation and initiative. Last but not least is to get connected and finding synergy-effects between us and new projects under the umbrella of YiA Programme of the European Commission.

There the participants will receive breakfast, lunch and dinner. The kitchen is used to cook also vegetarian and vegan food. We will reimburse 70% of the travel costs for the YC on the basis of the cheapest possibilities.

2013 The SHPE Foundation Scholarships, USA

The SHPE Foundation Scholarships are specially offered for Latino students pursuing degrees in engineering, math and science. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 – $5,000.
Description
The main consideration in selecting the recipients of the SHPE Foundation Scholarships is merit-based and need-based scholarships. Students must be deserving Latino/a high school graduating seniors, undergraduate students, and graduate students who demonstrate both significant motivation and aptitude for a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

Eligibility
The applicants must have a minimum High School and Undergraduate 2.75 GPA Graduate 3.00 GPA Dissertation 3.50 GPA both at the time of application and throughout the scholarship period, and students must be registered full time (12 hrs undergraduate / 9 hrs graduate) in a science, technology, engineering, or math discipline.

2013 Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund, USA

Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund is now available for students working for social change and actively working for peace and justice.

Description
The recipients of the scholarship should work for civil rights, against McCarthyism, and for peace in Vietnam. Recent grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice; and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity

Benefits: The maximum grant is $10,000 and may be considerably smaller depending on the applicant’s circumstances and the amount of funding available.

Eligibility

This scholarship is targeted to students who able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on the campus and in the community. In addition applicants must active to participate in struggles for civil rights, economic justice, international solidarity or other progressive issues.
The Davis-Putter scholars are also both graduate and undergraduate students and must be enrolled in an accredited school and receiving college credit for the time period covered by their grant.

2013/2014 Pre-doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships at Stanford University, USA

The Stanford University now invites applicants to apply fellowship for the program of Pre-doctoral and Postdoctoral in the field of democracy, development and rule of law. Applicants working at the intersection of two or more of these issue areas will receive preferential consideration. The Center expects to award one or more fellowships for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Description
Pre-doctoral fellows receive stipends comparable to that awarded by the Stanford Graduate Fellowships program; the Center also pays non-matriculated student tuition for pre-doctoral fellows as required by Stanford University. Post-doctoral fellows receive salaries commensurate with experience and with consideration given to university established minimums for a term period of 9 months. Healthcare and other benefits are also provided as required by Stanford University for both pre- and post doctoral fellows.

Fellows spend the academic year at Stanford University completing their projects, participating in seminars, and interacting with each other and the resident faculty and research staff. The Center facilities on the Stanford campus include offices and cubicles. Fellows have access to other Stanford libraries as well as exercise facilities.

Pre-doctoral fellows must be enrolled currently in a doctoral program or equivalent through the time of intended residency at Stanford, and must be at the dissertation write up (post course work) phase of their doctoral program. 2013 Doctoral Scholarships, University of Heidelberg, Germany

The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies offers 8 PhD scholarships in Transcultural Studies at University of Heidelberg in Germany. The programme covers a monthly scholarship of 1.200 Euro. About Scholarship: The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS) is a central element of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context: The Dynamics of Transculturality”. The Cluster’s interdisciplinary research focuses on the dynamics of transcultural entanglements within and between Asia and Europe from historical as well as contemporary perspectives.
It connects methods and theories from the humanities and social sciences to challenge the euro centrism and methodological nationalism still prevalent in scholarly discourses. The GPTS combines the European model of highly individualised doctoral studies and a system of guided courses.
Supervision is provided by mentors during a term of three academic years. In the first year participants attend a number of thematically focused classes. The second year is intended for field research, while the third year is dedicated for the writing and presenting of the results. Each doctoral student will be assigned two mentors/advisors. Half of the scholarships are reserved for students from Asia.

About Scholarship: Students work for two years part time in the Technologies Division of American Express, based in the Sussex Innovation Centre on the University of Sussex campus, while also studying for a postgraduate degree in Informatics or in the School of Business and Management. University of Canterbury College of Engineering Scholarships

PhD Fellowships in Economics at Vienna Graduate School of Economics
