City of London Business Traineeship Programme

A City of London Corporation funded internship programme managed by the Brokerage, that provides paid internships to students following completion of their A levels or equivalent qualifications.
Applications for the summer 2013 programme are now OPEN.

Can you get involved?

Because of the way this programme is funded and the competition for places there are a number of criteria you must meet to be able to take part. Please check that you meet ALL of these before applying (we will check!)

To be eligible you must:

  • Be completing your A levels or equivalent this academic year.
  • Live or go to a state school or college in one of the following boroughs: Camden, Hackney, Islington, Lambeth, Southwark, Tower Hamlets or Westminster.
  • Have achieved at least a B in English and Maths GCSE.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK.

How much will you earn?

Students could earn up to £400 per week. This is totally dependent on the details of your contract with the employer.

When would your internship take place?

Internships generally take place for between 6 and 13 weeks, usually during July, August and/or September. They'll finish just in time for those students that are starting university. There are also some opportunities for students looking for gap year placements.

Can you still take your summer holiday?

In our experience it varies from one employer to another, some employers are prepared to accommodate holidays providing they are made aware beforehand. Other employers would prefer to give a placement to students who are willing to commit to a full placement. Remember you will have plenty of holidays in the future but only one chance for this opportunity.

How do you apply?

Candidates apply online through the Brokerage's website. You will be required to enter your personal information, confirm your eligibility, upload your CV and answer three questions to support your application:
- Why do you want to be part of the CBT programme?
- What are your future career aspirations?
- What are your key three strengths and how have you developed them?
Each question has a 300 word limit.
You may want to make sure that you have this information ready before starting your application.
After you have completed your application, you will be required to come into the Brokerage to register and meet the team. This date will be set once we have received your application and assessed your eligibility.
